Medical Center of McKinney is the only hospital in Dallas, Collin, Grayson, and Fannin Counties to receive The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for health care quality for its Total Hip Replacement and Total Knee Replacement programs.
The Joint Commission is a non-profit organization that helps maintain and elevate healthcare delivery standards throughout the nation. The Joint Commission’s favorable assessment of Medical Center of McKinney’s joint replacement program was based on:
- Adherence to consensus-based national standards
- Effective use of established clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care
- An organized approach to performance measurement and improvement
- The high volume of procedures performed
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas also designated Medical Center of McKinney as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement.
To be designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement, the following types of criteria were evaluated.
- Established acute care inpatient facility, including intensive care, emergency care, and a full range of patient support services with full accreditation by a CMS-deemed national accreditation organization
- Experience and training of program surgeons, including case volume
- Quality management programs, including surgical checklists as well as tracking and evaluation of clinical outcomes and process of care
- Multi-disciplinary clinical pathways and teams to coordinate and streamline care, including transitions of care
- Shared decision making and preoperative patient education

With pre-operative education classes tailored to answer patients’ questions about surgery and recovery, a dedicated orthopedic unit staffed with nurses trained in orthopedic care, and a rapid rehabilitation approach, patients are able to increase flexibility and strength and return to a normal state of health quicker.
